About Leese

Background

After gaining my BA in Art History at Goldsmiths, I found my way to working in Marketing and Communications at the Design Museum, and later Ravensbourne University, both in London. There I was inspired by all the amazing student work to study for an MA in Graphic Design at LCC (University of the Arts London). Within 6 months I was offered a role as a Design Assistant and I haven’t looked back! Design is my passion, and I’m so lucky to be to earn a living doing a job I adore.

Experience

My press and PR experience, as well as my exposure to marketing, gives me a well-rounded approach that enables me to view my design work as part of a bigger picture – one that’s built to sell your brand. Graphic design is a marketing tool that can create a positive connection between you and your audience. I help you use the right words and visuals that tell your story, gets other people on board, and guarantees that your target market want to be part of your story, too.

Clients

Small but mighty! I specialise in working with small-to-medium businesses and sole traders. Every big brand started somewhere (just like mine), and I love the process of getting to know yours, and discover how I can make it even better. I have a variety of clients under my belt: authors, arborists, beauty brands, chambers of commerce, drivers, educators, filmmakers, government, health providers, ICT, jewellers, kitchen fitters, librarians, marketing agencies, non-profit, osteopaths, podcasters, quantity surveyors, retailers, security, telecomms … (I’ll stop now)

Skills

Industry-standard Adobe CC, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat Pro and Dimension. I am also proficient at designing for Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint) and can find my way around Excel quite happily. I’ve both produced content for and managed social media, mainly Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. Over my career I’ve been introduced to a number of different softwares and systems, ranging from WordPress, Wix, Magento, and custom CMS to Trello, Basecamp, Flock, Slack and Flump (… ok, I made the last one up).

I’m just one woman – I don’t do everything. BUT if your project requires some additional expertise, I’ve got you covered. With trusted industry contacts in web design, small- and large-run printing, apparel printing, signage production, vehicle wrapping, copywriting and photography, I can provide all the services you need to get your project off the ground.

Availability

I am available Mondays to Fridays (weekends by appointment). I am generally booked up a couple of weeks in advance, but the nature of my work means things do move around, so if you need a project urgently, please do get in touch and I’ll see what I can do!

What can I do for you?

Digital Design

It’s an essential part of marketing these days. I can create graphics for your website, email footers, mockups, blog, social media channels or app, as well as digital downloads and e-books. I’m not a web designer, but I work with some lovely techie types who’ve got that covered.

Print Design

Print is NOT dead! In the digital age, we can still appreciate the tactile experience of receiving printed paper. I specialise in print design including brochures, leaflets, business stationery (and more), working with you to match your brand and budget. I can arrange hassle-free printing and delivery to your door.

Brand Identity

First impressions matter. Branding is key to the way your customers perceive the values and personality of your business. I can work with you to produce a unique logo and branding materials that truly represent your company.

Branding: the design process

RESEARCH – First a designer will spend time researching your brand, sector, and competitors

BRAINSTORMING – Using their research, a designer will sketch up ideas for your logo and brand

PRODUCTION – The designer will turn those sketches into digital artwork, developing several ideas and selecting the best to send to the client

FINETUNING – Based on feedback, the designer will amend the chosen logo(s) until the client is happy with the finished design
